When it came time to build their own family home, the team at MGM set out to create something that reflected everything they believe in: quality construction, thoughtful design and timeless architecture. The home sits within Aureus, the masterplanned beachfront community at Skennars Head between Lennox Head and Ballina, on the same development as the other Aureus homes we have completed. Building for ourselves meant the brief could be exactly what we believe a good home should be, with nothing left to compromise.
Drawing inspiration from mid-century modern homes, the design combines clean lines, warm natural materials and a strong connection to the outdoors. Every detail was carefully considered to create a home that suits the family’s lifestyle today and will keep performing for decades to come.
The brief itself was simple. Create a home that feels warm, welcoming and connected to its surroundings. Rather than chasing trends, the focus stayed on timeless design principles, generous natural light, practical living spaces and quality materials. Loads of glass blur the line between inside and out, while natural textures and carefully selected finishes create a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere throughout.
Building your own home brings a unique perspective. Every decision, from the structural details through to the final finishes, is viewed through the eyes of both the builder and the homeowner at once. The focus throughout was on quality rather than shortcuts, with particular attention given to workmanship, material selection and long term durability, so the home holds its architectural character and stands the test of time.
The design came from Create Architecture, the same practice behind the wider Aureus estate, with Westera & Partners handling the structural and civil engineering. Working to our own brief never changed the way we coordinate a project. If anything it raised the bar, with every trade and every detail held to the standard we set on any MGM build.
